Are You Feeling the Blues?

What the colours that attract us may reveal about our journey through life

I still remember the first time I saw an Aura-Soma bottle display. I was mesmerised by its beauty and intrigued by the idea that each bottle had a meaning. The Aura-Soma tagline is "You are the colours you choose", and that simple statement has kept me curious ever since I discovered the system more than twenty years ago.

My first understanding of the tagline was quite simple. I thought I must have some "blue" or "red" quality within me, and that the colours I was drawn to somehow reflected that. Over the years, however, my understanding deepened.

What fascinated me most was not the meaning of any particular colour.

It was noticing that the colours I was drawn to changed.

Colours that once felt important seemed to fade into the background. New colours would suddenly appear in my life. Sometimes they showed up in the clothes I wore, the books I purchased, the crystals I selected or the spaces I created around me.

As the colours changed, I realised something else was changing too.

I was.

Over hundreds of Aura-Soma consultations, I have witnessed this same phenomenon again and again. A simple four-bottle selection can create a remarkable space for reflection and awareness. The colours people choose often seem to tell a story—not about who they are permanently, but about where they are right now.

Have you ever noticed how you are drawn to certain colours during particular periods of your life?

Take a moment to look around you.

What colours are appearing in your life at the moment?

Have they always been there?

Or have they changed over time?

Don't try to find an answer.

Simply be curious.

Bring that curiosity within.

Have you changed over time?

I would say you have.

The person you were ten years ago is not the person you are today. Your experiences, priorities, challenges and aspirations have all evolved. What if the colours that attract you have been evolving alongside you?

What if colour is not simply something we see, but something we respond to?

What if the colours that call to us are reflecting aspects of our current journey, helping us become aware of what is seeking expression, balance or attention within us?

And if that were true, who would be better placed to recognise that guidance than you?

The Attraction Principle within Aura-Soma suggests that the colours we choose can provide valuable insights into our own process of self-discovery. Rather than telling us who we should be, they invite us to become more aware of who we already are.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons colour has always played such a powerful role in human experience.

We speak of having "the blues".

We describe moments of anger as "seeing red".

We encounter people who are "green with envy".

Colour has always been woven into the language we use to describe our inner world.

Outer changes often reflect inner ones.

Why was everything you bought for months in shades of yellow, only for purple to suddenly take its place?

What might those changes reveal?

More importantly, what might they reveal about who you are becoming?

If these questions spark your curiosity, Aura-Soma offers one of the most fascinating systems I have encountered for exploring the relationship between colour, awareness and personal growth.

After more than twenty years of working with colour, I remain just as curious as I was when I first stood in front of that bottle display.

Perhaps curiosity is where the journey begins.
